This was the moment
As I drove down Garden Valley toward the Fred Meyer parking lot at 11:45 a.m., I wasn’t expecting to see so many signs already lining the area—yet there they were, bold and undeniable with 1 message – Stop the Cuts!
Arriving early to events is always a good idea, no matter your role. I’m here to protest, though I don’t carry a sign. My role is different—I carry my camera and a deep commitment to capture this movement as it unfolds.
Repeatedly, people approached me with the same questions: “Are you with the press?” “Are you with the News-Review?” Time and again, I had to explain that I wasn’t, and I could sense their disappointment. I understood it completely.
I became the press
It’s become painfully clear that we lack a local media source dedicated to covering those who are out here, standing up for our rights, our democracy, and our future. That realization sparked something in me. Right there, amid documenting our movement, I found my purpose: to create a platform that documents our struggles, victories, and even setbacks—whatever challenges the world throws at us.
I am making my stand. With my camera in hand, I vow to be present, capturing the truth as it happens, and sharing it with the world. If we don’t do it, no one else will.
